MLK Day 2023: Media Fellowship House Commemorates the Birthday of Dr. King & Celebrates Community Leaders

Media Fellowship House in partnership with the Media Area Branch NAACP will hold its 34th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Birthday Commemoration and Spirit Hall of Fame Awards on Sunday, January 15th from 3:00 – 4:30 pm at First Church Media located at 350 W. State St in Media.

Honoring Dr. King’s legacy and work to create a world free of injustice, this year’s celebration will mark the return of an in-person celebration. The message will focus on voter rights advocacy. Three community heroes will be inducted into the MLK Spirit Hall of Fame: Akeiff Staples and Brent Johnstone co-founders of FathersRead365 (FR365) as well as this year’s keynote speaker Kadida Kenner of the New Pennsylvania Project.  The celebration will feature selections from musical guests Danie Ocean and Kathy Anthony.

The MLK Spirit Hall of Fame, launched by MFH in 2018, honors local and national leaders, past and present, who reflect the values of Dr. King. This year, three individuals join a collection of 20 existing inductees who serve as role models for all who find value in their lives, accomplishments and commitment to advocacy for justice. This year in addition to hosting the celebration, MFH will also be collecting toiletry items for a service day on January 16.

Since its founding in 1944, MFH remains committed to celebrating differences and finding common ground through fair housing, education, and racial justice advocacy work. MFH proudly partners with the Media Area Branch NAACP in its quest for first class citizenships for all minority groups.
