SUMMARY:Storytelling Workshop #1
DESCRIPTION:Everyone has a story to share. We’d love to help you tell yours.\n\n\n\nJoin us this March as Media Fellowship House welcomes local storyteller Megan Hicks to facilitate two engaging workshops.  \n\n\n\nMegan will impart her wealth of storytelling techniques cultivated over years of experience. Participants will have the unique opportunity to learn from Megan as she guides them in crafting and sharing their own personal stories. Her expertise promises to inspire and empower attendees to harness the power of storytelling in their own lives. \n\n\n\nWorkshop 1: Listening for the Details that Set You on Your Life’s Path \n\n\n\nIn the initial storytelling workshop we will explore the unique circumstances and pivotal moments that have brought you to this point – where you’re ready to reach out and share your story with the world. \n\n\n\nDuring this session\, you’ll be encouraged to jot down notes\, make lists\, engage in dialogue\, and listen intently for the details that have shaped your life’s path. We’ll uncover the threads that weave your narrative\, guiding you toward a deeper understanding of your own story. \n\n\n\nWorkshop #2 is scheduled for Saturday\, March 30th\, 10am-1pm. \n\n\n\n\nLearn more

SUMMARY:Podcast Listening Party
DESCRIPTION:Making a Homeplace: The Historically Black Neighborhood of Swarthmore \n\n\n\n\n\nPlease join Media Fellowship House and the Philadelphia Folklore Project at an afternoon tea and listening party for Making a Homeplace: The Historically Black Neighborhood of Swarthmore! This community-led podcast uses oral history and storytelling to document and combat the displacement of Black people and Black memory from Swarthmore. At this event\, hear an excerpt from Episode 3\, “Growing Up Black in HBNS: A Child’s Perspective (School\, Play\, Love)\,” and learn from participants and project organizers about the role of memory and story in preserving our communities. Tips for starting your own memory project with your family or local community will be shared! \n\n\n\nMore about Making a Homeplace podcast: \n\n\n\nThis podcast explores the rich culture and history of the historically Black neighborhood of Swarthmore (HBNS) through collective oral history and storytelling. Over the last 15 years\, the neighborhood has seen rapid gentrification that has threatened to erase the history and presence of its vibrant Black communities. The Making a Homeplace podcast features community-curated episodes from ethnographic research into the neighborhood conducted in 2010\, 2020\, and 2022. Each episode focuses on a specific theme\, as follows:  \n\n\n\nEpisode 1: The Great Migration and The Rise of Black Neighborhoods \n\n\n\nEpisode 2: Wesley AME Church: Strategies for Thriving and the Role of the Black Church \n\n\n\nEpisode 3: Growing Up Black in HBNS: A Child’s Perspective (School\, Play\, Love) \n\n\n\nEpisode 4: Audio Walking Tour: The Historically Black Neighborhood of Swarthmore (forthcoming) \n\n\n\nEpisode 5: HBNS Sports & Social Activities: Etiquette\, Friendship & Mentors (forthcoming)Making a Homeplace is a project of the Philadelphia Folklore Project\, and has been supported in part by funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities\, PECO\, the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation\, the National Trust for Historic Preservation\, the Anne Bernstein Richan Peace Action Fund\, and the Borough of Swarthmore.
