SUMMARY:Volunteer or Dine: 6th Annual Community Thanksgiving
DESCRIPTION:It takes a community to feed a community!Our doors will be open to our guests from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday\, November 23. Volunteer tasks from 11am–1pm include setting up tables\, decorating\, and helping with last-minute food preparations. When doors open\, we can use support with meal service\, preparing to-go containers\, refreshing food and drink stations\, greeting and dining with guests\, and assisting with final clean-up. Youth and Adults 15+ are welcome to sign up for a shift. Younger children can accompany an adult\, but do not need to sign up for a shift separately.All volunteers must register on our event page! We’re thrilled by the community’s enthusiasm to help\, and to give everyone a chance to participate\, we kindly ask that you sign up for only one volunteer shift at this time. Please check back the week before the event to see if additional shifts become available. \n\n\n\nIn partnership with Cedar Creek Catering\, Media Fellowship House\, Media Food Bank\, and First Church Media\, we invite the local community to support us in making our 6th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner a huge success! \n\n\n\nJoin us for donation and volunteer opportunities leading up to the event. Volunteer shifts run from Wednesday 11/20 through Saturday\, 11/23. \n\n\n\nALL are welcome to dine in or take-out meals from 1 – 5 pm on 11/23. We are here\, and we are NOT going anywhere.Join us for an emergency safe space event this week from 6 PM to 8 PM on Thursday Nov 14th\, 2024 at Media Fellowship House for those who have not been able to get to UDTJ’s community center in Upper Darby. Join us for anyone who needs a place to find safety\, community\, and mutual support. We have some light snacks and will be talking about next steps as a community as well as supporting each other. Come as you are and know you’re not alone. SUMMARY:MAC Event: Playreading: Everybody's Hometown by Noah Mannix
DESCRIPTION:Original Playreading Series:\n\n\n\nEverybody’s Hometown by Noah Mannix\n\n\n\nOn Easter weekend of 1964\, civil rights demonstrations in Chester led to the imprisonment of many in the Media courthouse parking lot\, exposed to the elements and without proper accommodations\, behind a large iron gate. As Brother\, Sister\, Mother\, and Broomall’s Lake decide what to do and what is right\, members of North Media’s Black community past and present tell their stories of growing up in a place whose slogan is “Everybody’s Hometown.” A poetic ethnography\, this play was built on recorded interviews with North Media community members at The Media Theatre in 2022 and community engagement with the congregation of Second Baptist Church of Media. \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Playwright\n\n\n\nNoah Mannix (they/them) is a playwright\, theatermaker\, and teaching artist based in Philadelphia\, Pennsylvania. Noah is a founding artist of The AV Club (’24-current). They worked with Wise Possum Puppetry as a playwright to help write “Mr. Nutterbocker’s 7-Year Plan”\, a family puppet show in the Philadelphia Fringe Festival (‘24). They were a New Strides commissioned playwright (The Strides Collective)\, where they wrote the first act of their play 3 Women (‘24). They are a member of Azuka Theatre’s Rising Writers program as well as Matchbox Theatre’s Playwrights Group. They studied as a playwright at the National Theatre Institute’s Summer Theatermakers Intensive program (‘23)\, where they were awarded a Miranda Family Fellowship (‘23-current). Their work at Azuka Theatre in Philadelphia includes a staged reading of their full-length play All-of-the-Above Jesus (‘23)\, their one-act play “Prophets” (‘22)\, and as a teaching artist in Azuka’s Community Engagement Project\, “Community Stories” (‘23-Current). Their play All-of-the-Above Jesus received a reading from the Media Arts Council (‘23). They are a finalist for Big Idea Theatre’s One Act Festival (‘23) and PlayPenn’s The Foundry (‘22\, ‘24). They have also participated in Horizon Theatre’s New South Young Playwright’s Festival (‘22). Noah is a graduate of Temple University\, where they studied English and Theatre and Community Engagement/poetic ethnography (’22). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Series\n\n\n\nThe Media Arts Council (MAC) Play Reading Series was created by playwrights Julie Zaffarano\, Dave Ebersole\, and Keenya Jackson\, in partnership with the MAC to create a space for local playwrights to hear their work read by talented actors and receive feedback from a public audience. The only regular new play reading series in in the area\, it brings exciting new stories to Delaware County.Playwrights\, actors\, and directors who are interested in being involved in the series should contact Julie Zaffarano\, juliezaffarano.gmail.com. DESCRIPTION:Our stories connect workshop\n\n\n\nHow to Hold More Effective 1:1 Conversations\n\n\n\nIn this immersive 2.5-hour workshop\, participants will embark on a journey to master the art of storytelling while gaining a deeper understanding of biases—both conscious and unconscious—that shape our interactions. Designed for adult learners\, this workshop equips you with the skills to navigate and engage in meaningful\, sometimes uncomfortable\, one-on-one conversations. The workshop is divided into two key segments. The first focuses on helping you discover and articulate your own story\, enabling you to communicate authentically and effectively. The second segment delves into the complexities of biases\, exploring how they influence perceptions and interactions\, and providing tools to recognize and address them. DESCRIPTION:Join us for relaxed Tuesday evening figure drawing sessions monitored and organized by Media Arts Council! Each week will feature an unclothed model for drawing study and practice. Beginners and experts alike are welcome to join class and work in any medium. The sessions are designed to provide artistic community and fellowship to the artists of Media and beyond. Feel free to bring snacks and drinks to enjoy or share with new friends. Poses will range in length from 1-20 minutes \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSupporting local artists\n\n\n\nMedia Arts Council (MAC)\n\n\n\nMedia Fellowship House is excited to host Media Arts Council (MAC) programming in our space after their move from their State Street location in August 2024. Please check out the other great programming MAC offers! \n\n\n\nThe mission of the Media Arts Council is to actively support local artists and integrate a wide range of arts into the life of the entire community. DESCRIPTION:The Media Arts Council (MAC) Play Reading Series was created by playwrights Julie Zaffarano\, Dave Ebersole\, and Keenya Jackson\, in partnership with the MAC to create a space for local playwrights to hear their work read by talented actors and receive feedback from a public audience. SUMMARY:Community Mural Painting Event
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Media Fellowship House’s 80th Anniversary by Painting a Community Mural! \n\n\n\nJoin us in creating a vibrant mural that reflects our role as a beacon of unity and diversity in the community. This exciting project\, led by mural artists Stephanie Untz and Emmanuel Fitzpatrick\, is open to participants ages 10 and up. Younger children are welcome to attend\, if closely supervised by a parent/guardian. Come be a part of this creative celebration!Depending on the progress made at our first painting event on Saturday\, September 14th\, this second mural painting date is subject to change. An email will be sent to all registered guests. This community mural will be unveiled at our 80th Anniversary Street Party on Sunday\, October. 13th\, 1-5pm.
