DESCRIPTION:For over 30 years\, Media Fellowship House has partnered with community groups to honor Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr.\, one of America’s greatest Civil Rights leaders. Together with the Media Area NAACP\, local houses of worship\, and other partners\, we are proud to present one of the largest MLK celebrations in our area\, ensuring that Dr. King’s legacy and message of justice and equality continue to inspire. \n\n\n\nDUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED from 1/19 to 1/25 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAn afternoon to reflect and respond\, in community.\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, January 25\, 3–4:30pm.\n\n\n\nCommunity Dinner to Follow\, 4:30–6:00pm\n\n\n\nFirst Church Media\, 350 W. State St\, Media\, PA 19063\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister to Attend\n\n\n\n\nThis year\, our program focuses on systemic inequities in the juvenile justice system and the challenges faced by individuals reentering society after incarceration. The occasion will highlight the induction of three remarkable community heroes into the MLK Spirit Hall of Fame\, recognizing their outstanding contributions to criminal justice and prison reform. \n\n\n\nVolunteer at our MLK Day of Service on Jan 20  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGregory Volz\, JD\, Director of Youth Courts & Instructor for Law & Justice at Harcum College\, will deliver the keynote address. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMary DeWitt and Paulette Carrington\, artists and activists behind the Pardon Garden Project are to receive a MLK Spirit Hall of Fame Award. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJonathan Abdur-Rahim King\, founder/CEO of Safe Corridors will receive a MLK Spirit Hall of Fame Award. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe MLK Spirit Hall of Fame\, launched by MFH in 2018\, honors local and national leaders\, past and present\, who reflect the values of Dr. King. This year\, two individuals join a collection of 25 existing inductees who serve as role models for all who find value in their lives\, accomplishments and commitment to advocacy for justice.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for our 8th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr Day of Service from 10 am – 2 pm to be held at Cedar Creek Catering’s Fellowship Hall (First Church Media).  \n\n\n\nVolunteer Opportunities: Contribute toiletry items\, stay and help us organize\, pack boxes\, and deliver items to local organizations. \n\n\n\nInterested in organizing a toiletry drive at your school or workplace? We welcome you to drop off or request a pick up of a larger collection of items on or before 1/20. DESCRIPTION:Join Improv Artists for a raucous\, fun-filled night!\n\n\n\nBetter Than Bacon: Improv Comedy\n\n\n\nBetter Than Bacon Improv is a short form improv comedy troupe based in West Chester\, PA. BTB does short skits and games based on audience suggestions\, and often invites  audience members on stage to help out. Improv comedy\, as we say in our show openers\, is a one-time only performance. We work without a script or a net. What you see in one show will never be seen again. DESCRIPTION:Original Playreading Series:\n\n\n\nMaking It by Sarah Stryker\n\n\n\nEmily\, a young white painter with a by-the-book mentality\, wants nothing more than legitimacy in the eyes of the prestigious art world. When Emily gets the chance to pitch to an influential Curator\, out from her paintings emerges a portrait of a lover and competitor: Tae\, a Black artist whose speedy rise in the art world left Emily envious and bitter. As the Curator’s critical eye picks apart the person behind the paintings\, Emily learns too late what Tae sacrificed to make it. \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Playwright\n\n\n\nSarah Stryker (she/they) is a Philadelphia playwright\, actor\, educator\, and a founding artist of Philly’s premier horror theatre collaboration The AV Club. PLAYWRITING: Azukafest 2025 (Making It)\, ColLABo finalist 2024 (Making It)\, STRIDES Collective Emerging Playwright 2023 (Making It)\, KCACTF finalist 2023 (Against the Wind). Her comic radio play Going Dark premiered at Pomona College in April\, 2024\, and her horror radio play Murmurs premiered with R5 Productions in October\, 2024. PERFORMANCE: Arden Theatre Co.
