DESCRIPTION:Join us for relaxed Tuesday evening figure drawing sessions monitored and organized by Media Arts Council! Each week will feature an unclothed model for drawing study and practice. Beginners and experts alike are welcome to join class and work in any medium. The sessions are designed to provide artistic community and fellowship to the artists of Media and beyond. Feel free to bring snacks and drinks to enjoy or share with new friends. Poses will range in length from 1-20 minutes \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSupporting local artists\n\n\n\nMedia Arts Council (MAC)\n\n\n\nMedia Fellowship House is excited to host Media Arts Council (MAC) programming in our space after their move from their State Street location in August 2024. SUMMARY:The Landscape of the First Amendment: From the Civil Rights Era to Today
DESCRIPTION:Join us for learning and conversation.\n\n\n\nLee Rowland\, Director of the National Coalition Against Censorship\, will give a talk about the evolution of the First Amendment – from a once-overlooked constitutional right to the powerhouse it is today. She will discuss the First Amendment’s critical role in the Civil Rights movement – and the reciprocal impact that civil rights plaintiffs made on the evolving First Amendment. Rowland will trace the importance of our First Amendment to the history and health of our democracy and civic discourse\, and ask us all whether that role is intact today in a polarized\, digital age. Has the arc of the First Amendment brought us closer to justice?  Lee will present for approximately 45 minutes\, to be followed by a Q&A with participants. \n\n\n\nThis is a VIRTUAL EVENT. Please be certain to check your email for joining details. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\n\n\nLee Rowloand is the Executive Director of the National Coalition Against Censorship\, where she oversees NCAC’s direct program work\, legal and government advocacy\, and public education. She also runs the Free Expression Network\, a collaboration that brings together dozens of free expression advocates and organizations for regular strategy and information-sharing. Lee has extensive experience as a litigator\, professor\, and public speaker. Lee has been a First Amendment litigator for two decades\, serving as a lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union\, the ACLU’s New York and Nevada state affiliates\, and the Brennan Center for Justice; she has also taught course in free expression at NYU Law and CUNY’s Hunter College’s Human Rights Program.  As Policy Director of the NY ACLU for over five years\, Lee is also a seasoned lobbyist and advocate for a range of civil liberties and free speech positions\, and helped draft and pass NY’s recent Equal Rights Amendment. Lee lives in Brooklyn and is addicted to Tetris.  \n\n\n\nThis event is co-hosted by Media Fellowship House and Media Area NAACP.

DESCRIPTION:Volunteer Opportunities\n\n\n\nHelp us make this event special! Volunteer shifts run from Wednesday\, November 19\, through Saturday\, November 22. \n\n\n\nFrom 11 a.m.–1 p.m. on the day of the event\, volunteers can help with setup\, decorating\, and last-minute food preparations. When doors open\, we’ll need support with meal service\, preparing to-go containers\, refreshing food and drink stations\, greeting and dining with guests\, and assisting with final clean-up. \n\n\n\n\nWho can volunteer: Youth and adults 15+ are welcome to sign up for a shift.\n\n\n\nYounger children are welcome to accompany a parent or guardian (no separate registration required).\n\n\n\nAll volunteers must register on our event page.\n\n\n\nTo ensure everyone has a chance to participate\, please sign up for only one volunteer shift at this time. DESCRIPTION:Join us for learning and conversation.\n\n\n\nAmerica’s political polarization is often fueled by clashes between two rival visions of the Constitution—one traditionalist\, one progressive. Yet both interpretations are deeply rooted in the Constitution itself. \n\n\n\nIn this thought-provoking lecture\, Rogers M. Smith—a leading scholar of American constitutional law and political thought—explores how the Reconstruction Amendments—the 13th\, 14th\, and 15th—embody elements of both visions\, and how they may offer a shared sense of national purpose that can guide us toward common ground today. \n\n\n\nJoin us for an evening of reflection\, history\, and dialogue on how the Constitution continues to shape America’s future. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\n\n\nRogers M. Smith is the Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania. A leading scholar of American constitutional law and political thought\, he is the author of nine books\, including Civic Ideals (Pulitzer Prize finalist) and America’s New Racial Battle Lines (2024). It captures the story of Katherine and Bianca\, two sisters navigating a world dictated by the will of men. When their father sets an ultimatum that Katherine\, a free-spirited and romantically uninvolved woman\, must settle down to marry before her lovestruck sister will be allowed to\, tensions increase within the family until someone must give in. They struggle between dedication to themselves\, fondness for each other\, and an overarching society that expects certain things from them. He is a director\, actor\, and playwright primarily\, but his work expands into hair and makeup design\, props\, poster design\, and anything else he is able to get his hands on. He is committed to creating and contributing to thought provoking experiences for both his audiences and the teams with which he collaborates. Ronnie is a recent graduate of West Chester University’s Department of Theatre and Dance\, entering the workforce with a BA in Theatre Arts (Musical Theatre Concentration). He is currently a non-Union artist.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Series\n\n\n\nThe Media Arts Council (MAC) Play Reading Series was created by playwrights Julie Zaffarano\, Dave Ebersole\, and Keenya Jackson\, in partnership with the MAC to create a space for local playwrights to hear their work read by talented actors and receive feedback from a public audience. The only regular new play reading series in in the area\, it brings exciting new stories to Delaware County.Playwrights\, actors\, and directors who are interested in being involved in the series should contact Dave Ebersole at daveebersole25@gmail.com\, Keenya Jackson at keenyajackson@gmail.com\, or Julie Zaffarano at juliezaffarano.gmail.com.
